Find Auckland City YHA
Auckland City YHA is in a great location just off Queen Street which is in the heart of Auckland CBD. It is also very close to the K Rd entertainment center where weird and not so wonderful people linger around looking for bakckpackers to prey on. The people that you should really avoid are the Auckland City Backpacker Car Market, who are insudious people that should be locked up.
Facilities
The hostel facilities are really very good. You have a well stocked kitchen which is big enough to fit in a hostel full of folks. The common areas are pretty neat as well, especially the dining area and lounge area on the ground floor. Watch out for the woman who runs the cafe, she'll snarl at you if you pinch her tomato ketchup.
On the third floor there is a rather nice TV room and a balcony for soaking up all that dangerous NZ UV rays - you can also dry clothes here as well as your skin.
The rooms are ok, liitle bit like an institution but what do you expect? There are bathrooms and toilets on every floor and providing you do your business early in the morning there shouldn't be too much wee on the floor.
Friendliness
Very social hostel if you make the effort to talk to people. It atrracts a lot of Asian backpackers who can be a lot of fun if you smile at them. Long termers are evident but not in any great numbers.
Quite a few older backpackers stay at this hostel too which is nice, so expect plenty of lectures on how easy people have it these days etc etc
Finally
For an inner city hostel this one is good . 7/10.
